Rest

Todd Stevison Video Talk 12/30/18

Rest. A practice that many of us struggle to incorporate into our routines. When people ask how we are, so many of us respond with busy, and we also admit to feeling tired way more than we should. On December 30, 2018, Public Church took a break and cancelled our Gatherings to give our volunteers and staff a chance to rest, and we recorded a video talk on rest. We are trying to grow in this area, but our conversation about rest is incomplete without voice. We invite you to watch our video talk and then discuss these questions to lend your voice and help us all move forward with habits of true rest that refresh our souls.

Discussion Questions:

  • Are you crushing it or is it crushing you? Why?

  • What habit helps you lean away from productivity and lean in to his presence?

  • Currently, what is the most impactful benefit to this type of rest?

  • Have you experienced other benefits to this type of rest?

  • What refreshes you?

  • This week, how will you practically lean away from productivity and lean in to his presence?

Extra Questions:

  • Read Colossians 3:23. How can this apply to our rest and leisure?

  • Read Exodus 34:21. Plowing time and harvest were the busiest seasons for the original audience, and God tells to rest even then. How can you rest even in your busiest season?

  • Read Exodus 23:12. Our rest allows those who come alongside us to rest. Who would your resting directly benefit by allowing him or her to rest?

  • Over the next month, how can continue to cultivate the habits that helps you lean away from productivity and lean in to his presence?
